LYNCH’S HISTORY

As of January 5th, 2015 Lynch’s Garden Center, a landmark family owned business serving the community’s horticultural and gardening needs for over 80 years, is under new ownership. Margaret “Midge” Fowler, and her sons, Ricky and Andy, have purchased the garden center located at 175 North Sea Road. As a longstanding farming family in Southampton, the Fowlers appreciate the vital connection that Lynch’s has in the community- its small town feel, customer-friendly environment, and commitment to excellence. They plan to continue that tradition of service, honoring the history and legacy of this longstanding family business as good stewards.

“Lynch’s Garden Center is a landmark family owned business serving the community’s horticultural and gardening needs for over 80 years.”

Lynch’s has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Started as an estate management business in the early 1900’s by Terence Lynch, an Irish immigrant, the business was expanded by his youngest son, James H. Lynch, Sr. with a storefront located on Nugent Street. In 1955 an opportunity arose to acquire the current location and Mr. Lynch established a solid trade with which he supported his wife, Ruth G. Lynch, and their nine children. Mr. Lynch would be amazed at how his sons have transformed the enterprise into the preeminent business, and integral part of the community that it is today. Ruth Lynch, now a centenarian, looks back and says, "I love the business and I am very proud of my sons."

Known for its friendly attentive service, Fowler’s has been called ‘the unofficial meeting place of the Hamptons'. Both year-round and seasonal clients feel welcome to browse and chat while they make their purchases. It is a festive destination at Halloween and Christmas, with arguably the best Santa around, complimentary photos, hot cider and cookies. Even during the hectic Spring and Fall seasons, one can still count on individual service with a wide array of products and plants.
