Some snippets of advice for late June, July and August...

  • Be sure to water as necessary.
  • Remember to apply deer repellent.
  • Fertilize and prune your flower and vegetable beds to keep them productive.
  • Reap your vegetable garden rewards.
  • Start a compost pile and remember to turn it.  Remember to add green waste only.
  • Relax and go to the beach.

For your lawn:

  • If you choose to use the Scott’s program, use Step 3 fertilizer plus iron.  It will improve the greening of your lawn.
  • Apply grub control/insecticide to kill stage Japanese beetles at this time.
  • Apply Dylox in August/September for grub control.  Milky spore (an organic control,) can be applied anytime.
  • Many times, a mole population is an indication of a grub issue. Although grubs may not always be the problem check your lawn for these insects by pulling up a section of your lawn.  If the grass pulls up easily and there are no roots, grub are most likely the problem.
